Aiming to give users more ways to interact with the real world, Taiwanese smartphone major ASUS today launched ASUS ZenFone AR smartphone that comes with both augmented reality and virtual reality software. ZenFone AR smartphone that represents a significant advancement in mobile augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) and technologies.

Tango-enabled phones are designed to understand the physical area by measuring the distance between the phone and objects in the real life world.

In case you are wondering what Tango is, here is a short description. Tango is a set of sensors and computer-vision software by Google that enables unique AR user experiences on a smartphone, such as AR gaming, AR utilities, and indoor navigation.

Daydream is another Google’s platform for high quality, mobile virtual reality. The Asus ZenFone AR has a 5.7-inch WQHD (2K) (1440 x 2560) display. This large size and high-resolution screen make it ideal for VR apps and games when used with Daydream View, immersing users in incredible VR worlds that appear detailed and lifelike. Super AMOLED technology enables deep blacks and high contrast, further enhancing image quality and 3D effects.

Priced at Rs 49,999, ZenFone AR will be available exclusively on Flipkart starting today, 4 p.m. onwards.

Users can avail a discount of Rs 2,500 on Google Daydream View VR Headset, along with the purchase of ZenFone AR on Flipkart.

Wrapped in a metal frame, the phone features a soft leather finish on the back that feels nice and also provides a secure grip. The device has 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED display.

ZenFone AR is second commercially available Tango-ready smartphone, but unlike Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro, ZenFone AR is slim and less bulky.

On the back, the device with ASUS TriCam system — a three-camera system consisting of a 23MP main camera, motion-tracking camera, and a depth-sensing camera, needed to run Tango-enabled applications.

The motion-tracking camera has a “Super Resolution” mode that can create the 92MP image and can also capture 4K video.

Due to the Tango functionality at the back, the fingerprint sensor has now been moved to the front of the device, integrated into the physical home button.

To support AR and VR, the device comes with massive 8GB of RA, and according to ASUS, Zenfone AR will allow you to “see the world with a new set of eyes”, as the smartphone is capable of mixing virtual objects into the real world.

With the Google’s computer vision software and ASUS’s sensors the phone is able to detect how far away it is from the floor, walls and objects.

Once you had inserted your phone on to Google’s Daydream View headset, the big 5.7-inch display of ZenFone AR gives you an easy way to experience 360 degree games and videos.

As most of the VR-enabled phones gets heated, ASUS has deployed an ‘Advanced Vapor Cooling System’ to help prevent the smartphone from overheating.
