Reliance Jio Phone Launched in India at Rs Zero

Targeting 50 crores feature phone users in the country, Industrialist Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) today announced the launch of ‘intelligent smartphone’ Reliance Jio Phone, which will be available for beta testing from August 15.

“The Reliance Jio Phone will be available to the Indian consumers at Rs 0 (zero),” Ambani said during the company’s 40th annual general meeting.

Reliance Jio Phone supports 22 languages and to guard the device against misuse, consumers purchasing the phone will have to pay a fully refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500 security deposit.

While the pre-booking for the phone will commence from August 24 and it will be given away on a first come first served basis, the phone will be available for all the users starting from September.

Reliance Jio Phone will allow for free voice calls and SMS to customers and for using 4G data, customers need to pay Rs 153 per month. Reliance Jio Phone can be connected to any TV, not just internet TV, to watch videos.

The phone is pre-loaded with applications like Jio Cinema, Jio Music, and others.

Reliance JioPhone is Made in India by young Indians for all Indians, Ambani said, adding that Jio in next 12 months will cover 99 per cent of our country’s population. In India, Jio now has 125 million customers.
