Google speech to text is a powerful speech recognition technology developed by Google. It is also available for developers as Cloud Speech-to-Text API that they can use to build different apps and tools that are capable to convert audio to text using the powerful neural network on PC as well as mobile phones. On PC, the Google speech to text of Google can be used online in Google Docs, easily. You can either use a microphone to speak so that Google speech to text tool captures and transcribe that for you or just use some pre-recorded audio file. Both will work.
A thing which we need to keep in mind that, still, the accuracy of Google Speech Recognition technology is not 100%, you will get it around 70 to 80 percent. Also, it depends upon your accent, pronunciation of words and background noise. The best part it can understand more than 150 languages.
Here we will show you how to use Google speech to text for PC via Google Docs.
Step 1: Open Google Docs
Google Docs word processor is part of Google’s online web-based software office. It is free to use and you just need a Google account for that. If you are not familiar with it then you can use this link to access Google Docs
Step 2: Access Google speech to text for PC feature
You can use Google speech to text on PC regardless which operating system you are using it could be Windows 10/8/7, MacOS, Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, Debian, Linux Mint etc.), FreeBSD even Android or iOS. It is because we accessing Google Voice Typing feature online using a web-based app called Google Docs. Thus, what exactly we need is only a browser.
On Google Docs click on Tools and Select Voice Typing… You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S.
Step 3: Start Google Voice Typing to convert Speech to text on PC
When you click on Voice Typing option from Tools from Google Docs menu a Mic icon will appear. To start Speech to text or transcription click on this black colour Mic icon.
Step 4: Google speech to text online
As you click on Mic icon it will turn into red colour which represents that it has started listening to you now. Now, you just need to start speaking in front of your Laptop/PC’s mic and it will write or transcribe for you by converting audio to text.
If you want to use Google Speech to text on PC but for some audio file that you have recorded earlier. You can also play that file in front of your computer Mic using a smartphone or some other audio playing devices. It will be really helpful for those looking for online free transcribing audio to text for their audio interview or some video/audio presentation.
Although playing audio in front of PC’s mic can be captured by the Google Voice typing to transcribe, there is one method better than it for audio files.
The other method is using the CA Virtual Audio cable. It is a small tool that redirects any application audio output running on PC to the input of other applications.
