Bill Gates, the full name of William Henry Gates III born in October 1955 in Seattle (US). He founded Microsoft and brought it one of the top software company in the world. Beside an entrepreneur, he is also a software engineer and philanthropist.

On December 28, 1955, William Henry Gates III, the official name of Bill Gates, was born in Seattle, Washington, on the west coast of the United States. The younger Gates gave him the name “Trey”, which means “three points” in playing cards. His father is a retired attorney and philanthropist named “William Henry Gates (Sr.)”. His late mother, Mary Maxwell Gates, is a director of the University of Washington, a director of the banking system and a member of the International United Way. Way International’s chairman, his grandfather JW Maxwell was the president of the National Bank. Bill grew up with two older sisters.

In 1968, Gates and his classmate Paul Allen used a guidebook to start learning Basic programming. At that time, the school had a PDP-10 computer, and its annual budget for its use was $3,000. In just a few weeks, Gates and Allen spent the budget. Soon after, the two boys signed an agreement with Computer Center Corporation (CCC). The agreement stipulates that Gates and Allen report to the CCC software vulnerabilities in the PDP-10; in return, CCC provides free time to both of them.

In 1971, Gates wrote a program for Lakeside Middle School, which included a schedule scheduling software.

In 1972, Gates sold his first computer programming work, a timetable system, in which his buyer was a high school and the price was $4,200.

In 1973, Gates was admitted to Harvard University where he developed a version of the BASIC programming language for the first microcomputer, MITS Altair.

On February 1, 1975, after a day and night of work, Gates and Allen wrote a program that could run on the Altair 8800. The price sold to MITS was $3,000, but the corresponding royalty was as high as $180,000.

On November 26, 1976, Gates and Allen registered the “Microsoft” trademark. They once considered the company name as “Allen & Gates Inc.”

In January 1977, Gates dropped out of Harvard University and travelled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. There, he found a job for Roberts to write a program with a salary of $10 an hour. MITS is headquartered in Albuquerque, and Gates also has Microsoft headquarters here.

On January 1, 1979, Gates moved Microsoft headquarters to Bellevue, Washington.

On August 28, 1980, Gates signed a contract with IBM to agree to develop an operating system for IBM’s PC. He then purchased a QDOS operating system for $50,000, and after a slight improvement, renamed the product to DOS and then licensed it to IBM.

In 1982, during the first year of its marketing, Gates licensed the MS-DOS operating system to 50 hardware manufacturers.

On November 10, 1983, the Windows operating system debuted. This product is an evolution of the MS-DOS operating system and provides a graphical user interface.

In 1987, at a press conference held by Microsoft in Manhattan, New York City, Gates met Melinda French.

On May 13, 1990, the day was Mother’s Day, and Gates proposed a timetable for Microsoft executives to retire.

In 1994, with the advice of his father, William Gates, Gates took out $94 million to create the William Gates Foundation.
