2 Ways to Install Microsoft Edge on AlmaLinux 8 | Rocky Linux 8

Learn the steps to install Microsoft Edge browser in Almalinux 8 or Rocky Linux 8 using command terminal for having Chrome and Firefox alternative.

In the web browser race, Microsoft was technically behind with Internet Explorer for a long time. However, to keep up with Chrome and Firefox, it introduced the Edge browser with Windows 10. Since Microsoft’s Internet Explorer doesn’t work that way anymore, a new browser should be found.

Well, the best thing is unlike IE, the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser is not just limited to Windows 10 only. It is available as a setup to install just like Google Chrome and Mozilla for all the popular operating systems including mobile devices.

As the Edge is based on Chromium (open source project) just like Chrome, we can also use the extensions available on the Chrome store on Edge. Moreover, Edge also offers some advanced features that are not available on Chrome such as taking screenshots directly from the browser.

#1st method using RPM binary:

sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo https://packages.microsoft.com/yumrepos/edge

This command is just to rename the added repo, to identify easily.

sudo mv /etc/yum.repos.d/packages.microsoft.com_yumrepos_edge.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/microsoft-edge.repo
