What to do after installing Ubuntu 22.04 Linux?

1. Update Your System

To perform this we can either use the command terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) or GUI “Software Updater” of the system’s Dash Search. Due to the large community, you will have timely bug fixes, security updates, and new features. sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

 

2. Install Drivers for Graphics or Network Cards

If you used the LiveCD installation media to install Ubuntu, then all of your hardware drivers were probably included automatically. But if not, it is necessary to now install drivers for any graphics cards such as Nvidia / Radeon or network cards, printers, etc. that are necessary for your machine. These drivers can be found on manufacturer websites or in Ubuntu’s source repositories by typing “drivers” into the Dash search bar.

  1. Click on the Dash’s Show Applications dots icon or click on Activities given in the Taskbar.
  2. Type Drivers in the search box.
  3. Select the Additional Drivers option.
  4. Software & Updates with Additional Drivers tab.
  5. All the hardware devices that need drivers to be installed will show there.

3. Install Additional Software Packages and Applications

Ubuntu comes with many basic software packages and applications preinstalled, such as LibreOffice, GIMP (a photo editor), VLC Media Player (to watch movies), etc., but you may want to install additional software packages depending on what type of activities you like to do on your computer.

To install the applications on Ubuntu 22.04 using GUI:

  1. Click on the Ubuntu software icon given on the Dash (Dock).
  2. On the GUI Software installer click the Search icon.
  3. Type the application name that you want to install.
  4. Select the app when it appears and click the Install button.

Using it we can also install popular applications like Skype, Chromium, Firefox, and Dropbox can all be easily installed from the official Ubuntu repository or through third-party repositories such as Launchpad PPAs or PPAs provided by software developers themselves. 4. Configure System Settings such as Themes, Wallpaper

Once all of your hardware components have been detected and configured correctly, it is time to start customizing Ubuntu according to your preferences by changing

  • Fonts sizes
  • Themes, and wallpaper backgrounds
  • Setting up screen resolution
  • Configuring mouse settings
  • Enabling touchpad gestures
  • Setting up keyboard shortcuts
  • Enabling user accounts
  • Accessing remote computers using SSH; etc…
