According to Reuters, the California federal court ruled that Apple infringed a patent named WiLan Inc., which required $145 million in compensation.
Apple did not accept the verdict and confirmed that it was ready to appeal.
Founded in 1992, WiLan Inc is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and operates in wireless communications systems research and patent licensing.
After the court’s decision, the company also issued an additional statement that San Diego’s judge ruled that Apple’s iPhone infringed WiLan Inc’s two patents related to wireless communication technology.
This is not the first time the two companies have filed a lawsuit for a patent dispute.
As early as 2013, the company had brought Apple to court and claimed 248 million US dollars. However, the judge determined that Apple’s infringement was not true, and rejected all the company’s claims.
