It is always a good practice to change your online account passwords every two months or so and that is recommended by most security experts and even I try to change the passwords related to all my accounts every 2-3 months. If you use multiple computers to log in to several services especially Gmail and Facebook, it is always a good idea to change those account passwords every 2-3 months if not the other accounts, which you do not access often. Today, Facebook is one of the most popular social networking websites which most people use, and nowadays come it is a kind of your identity and you should maintain your Facebook profile properly.
However, if somebody gets access to your Facebook account, he can post statuses, upload photos, and videos on behalf of you and you will be rendered responsible for everything that is being done from your profile. If somebody gets access to your profile for unscrupulous purposes, the attacker can malign your personal image in front of your friends and family members, in your workplace, and everyone else and that is the reason why you should never take your Facebook account for granted. Today I will be talking about how you can change the Facebook account password using the Facebook app and on the Facebook website. I would also recommend you to create a periodic reminder so that you get reminded about changing the password for your Facebook account after every 2-3 months if you think you can forget it.
So, without any further delay let’s get started with how you can change the Facebook account password both from the web and the app.
Change Facebook Account password using a Web browser
Step 1: Log in to your Facebook account with all your existing credentials, click on the drop-down button on the top right corner of the Facebook website, and click on ‘Settings & Privacy’. Now, a new menu will again open up, click on ‘Settings’.
Step 2: Now, click on ‘Security and login’ on the left panel under ‘Settings’, and click on ‘Change password’ under ‘Security and login’.
Step 3: Type in the current password, along with the new password twice, just like every time you create a new password, and click on ‘Save Changes’.
The password will be changed instantly, and you have two options now. First, you can choose to keep yourself logged in to Facebook on all other devices, where you are already logged in, and secondly, you can review the devices so that you can log out of selected or all devices instantly. I will recommend you to go with the second option as that is more secure, and if your Facebook account is logged in on an untrusted device, you can be logged out of that device, as well.
Step 4: Just select ‘Review other devices’, and click on ‘Continue’.
Step 5: You can find a list of all other devices, where you are already logged in. You can log out of all the devices individually, however, I will recommend you to click on ‘Log out of all sessions’, and click on ‘Log Out’ followed by that.
Change Facebook Password via Mobile App
Step 1: Open the Facebook Android app, log in with all your credentials, and click on the hamburger icon (the icon with three horizontal bars).
Step 2: Now, tap on ‘Settings & Privacy’ in the menu that appears.
Step 3: Under ‘Security’, tap on ‘Security and login’ to start changing the password.
Step 4: Under ‘Login’, tap on ‘Change password’.
Step 5: Type in the old password, along with the new password twice, and finally tap on ‘Save Changes’.
Step 6: Just like in the case of changing the password from the web, you can get the chance to log out of all the devices or select specific devices to log out. Just select ‘Review other devices’, and tap on ‘Continue’.
Step 7: I will recommend you to tap on ‘Log out of all sessions’ and tap on ‘Log Out’ in the warning that appears.
It is really easy to change the Facebook account password, and it shouldn’t take more than a minute. For better security, I will also recommend you to enable two-factor authentication as that will add an extra layer of security to your Facebook account.
