Fossil Q Marshal Review: A Rugged Android Touchscreen Smartwatch

The Fossil Q Marshal is a new Android Wear smartwatch launched by Fossil in 2016. The sporty and stylish look along ruggedness makes it best to wear in every environment. The Q Marshal touchscreen smartwatch comes in three different looks: Q Marshall stainless steel, Q marshall black silicon, and Q marshall brown leather the only difference in all of them is the strap. The interface and features of all the three are same. The Q Marshall is for men, a sibling of Q wander that is for women. The price of Fossil’s Q Marshall is INR 21,995 , let’s see how much smart it is.

Fossil Q Marshal Design and Display

This Android wear has a round chunky ring around the watch face that looks like it can rotate but it is not, this adds a rugged feel to the watch. At the right side of the watch, there is a crown which is not rotatable, it just a pushable button along with a mic. On the other hand at the left side, you will find some small grills that consist a speaker.

Our review unit is Fossil Q Marshall with black silicon strap that has a rugged design and its material is also enough strong to work in the extreme environment.

The Fossil Q Marshall comes in gray, silver, gold and navy color with 22mm straps that can easily swappable. Although Fossil offers a wide range of straps in a variety of colors and it uses three core materials for their straps: silicone, leather, and stainless steel. The watch has 45mm case and 14mm thickness which makes it little bit beast.

The screen Q Marshall flaunts a 1.5-inch display with a resolution of 360 x 360 which is not pretty much bad. Overall the screen is bright and clear to read the text under the direct sunlight . But the circular face or dial of the Q Marshall suffers from a flat tyre at the bottom of the display which is designed to give a space for sensors. This does not bother us while using the watch but it should be a complete circle to enhance the user experience.

Fossil Q Marshall Software, Performance, and Specs

It’s run on Google’s wearable OS which gives you some same abilities like Android phones. You can pick or drop the incoming calls directly from the watch. The inbuilt speaker is not so efficient and we are not able to get clear audio due to small speakers. Fossil has given the ability to select different watch faces, as well as a range of Google’s, customize faces available on play store.

It also offers the Android wear apps compatibility that links up the smartwatch to offers different control options such as navigation, watch faces, health monitor, etc. You will get all notification of your smartphone apps directly on your watch like Whatsapp, calling, SMS, facebook etc.

The UI interface is pretty straight forward with different gesture controls.  The Fossil Q Marshal packs up with a basic step counter and sleeps counter to feed apps like Google Fit, Jawbone etc. There is an inbuilt Fossil Q app that is just a hub of watch faces which help you to organize the custom watch faces for the Q Marshal and Q Wander. We get one downside of this watch is that there is no heart rate monitor but you will get it with water resistant IP67, so you don’t need to take it off when you get in the shower.

There is a Fossil Q app on the watch itself, but this is just a hub for your watch faces. There are a bunch of great custom watch faces for the Marshal and Wander, and the Q app simply provides a way to organize them.

The few main functions of this watch: Personalise Dial, Control Music, voice activated Google, LED Flashlight , Google Maps Enabled, Interchangeable Watch Band. It runs on a Snapdragon 2100 processor with 4GB flash storage. There were no performance lag or glitches while we were using it. The navigation and apps functioning are faster and smoother.

Fossil Q Marshal Smartwatch Battery

Fossil claims that the watch the can go for 24 hours on one charge which almost true for us. We managed to get one and half day on one charge without any performance reduction. For charging Fossil Q Marshall is really easy, it comes with an Apple Watch-esque magnetic charging cable that clings on the rear panel of the watch.

  1. Love this watch! Just a bit bummed it doesn’t have a heart rate tracker though. There aren’t many things I really want out of a smart watch, but being one of those “fitness guys”, a heart rate tracker is definitely one of them 🙂
