Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Price and Specifications Revealed

Samsung has launched its next-generation foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Flip 5 at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event in Seoul, South Korea. Serving as a successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 4, this new clamshell foldable smartphone brings several enhancements. These improvements include a new Flex Hinge design, a larger cover display, and an upgraded chipset. 

The device is powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, featuring overclocked CPU and GPU cores. Notably, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 boasts a water-resistant IPX8 build and benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on both the display and rear glass. Keeping it running all day is a 3,700mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is priced at $999 (approximately Rs. 82,000) and comes in a variety of colors, including Graphite, Gray, Green, Blue, Cream, Lavender, Mint, and Yellow. Samsung offers several case options for the handset, such as clear gadgets, flap eco-leather, flipsuit, and silicone with a ring.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available for purchase in select global markets starting from August 11. Notably, the previous model, Galaxy Z Flip 4, was priced at Rs. 89,999 in India. Alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 during the Galaxy Unpacked event, which starts at $1,799 (roughly Rs. 1,47,000).

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is its thinnest and lightest foldable phone to date, boasting several improvements over its predecessor.

Regarding the displays, the Z Fold 5 features a larger 6.2-inch cover screen with a Dynamic AMOLED panel. It offers a resolution of 2316 x 904, an aspect ratio of 23:9, and a smooth refresh rate of 120 Hz. The main display has also been upgraded and now measures 7.6 inches, utilizing a Dynamic AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2176 x 1812. The main display’s aspect ratio is 21:18, and it also supports a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is now powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which is coupled with 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of up to 1TB.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes equipped with a 3,700mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. Samsung asserts that the battery can be charged from empty to 50 percent in a mere 30 minutes. Additionally, the phone supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare, enabling users to charge other devices wirelessly using their Galaxy Z Flip 5.

In terms of dimensions, when folded, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 measures 71.9 x 165.1 x 6.9mm, and when unfolded, it extends to 71.9 x 85.1 x 15.1mm. The phone weighs 187 grams.

Similar to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 features a dual rear camera setup. It features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide primary sensor with an f/2.2 lens and an impressive 123-degree field of view. The second camera is a 12-megapixel wide-angle with dual pixel autofocus, an f/1.8 lens, an 83-degree field of view, and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) support. For selfies and video calls, the phone is equipped with a 10-megapixel front-facing camera featuring an f/2.2 lens and an 85-degree field of view. The selfie camera is cleverly positioned on top of the folding display.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is available in two storage variants: 256GB and 512GB of inbuilt storage. As for connectivity, the phone supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Despite being a new model, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, like its predecessors, does not have dust resistance as it carries an IPX8-rated build.
