Xiaomi Launches Alexa Builtin Yeelight Smart Speaker

LG is about to showcase its Google Assistant enabled ThinQ smart speaker in CES 2018. But Xiaomi steps ahead and already launched a new product which is Yeelight Voice Assistant speaker powered by Alexa. The Yeelight is the subsidiary of Xiaomi and opens its way to enter in the IOT world.  The price of Yeelight is 199 Yuan ($30.)


The Xiaomi using two different artificial intelligence in the Yeelight; the Chinese market will receive the Xiaomi AI (Xiaomi owns artificial intelligence) while the rest of the world get the Yeelight with Amazon Alexa.

According to the Xiaomi, the reason of segregation Chinese market from the global, as the Alexa allows the western more familiar language than Chinese.

From the technical perspective, the Xiaomi Yeelight Voice Assistant Smart speaker powered by the Cortex-A53 quad-core CPU with 256MB RAM and 256MB inbuilt storage. The speaker for output has a single 2-watt loudspeaker, and as per the Xiaomi the speaker can receive and prompt the voice command within a range of five meters.  For other connectivity, the dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy are there.

The design of Yeelight speaker is similar to the Alexa Echo Dot. It has a white color body with a blue LED ring, speaker grills and volume control buttons on the top. The Yeelight Voice Assistant backed with Dual AI system that makes it more than just a Voice Assistant device and gives the capabilities to control other Xiaomi home automation products, such as smart LED lamps, table lamps, bedside lamps, ceiling lights, etc. Right now it can only support Xiaomi branded home automation products but in coming weeks the support will be extended to more devices.
