Snapbizz bridging the gap between India’s kirana stores & Cloud technology

Even the India has big e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart those using the high-class gadgets and cloud technologies to full fill the consumer’s requirements; but what about the traditional place of purchasing goods in India called “Kirana store”.  According to the Microsoft blog, despite having malls and online stores still, there are nine billion Kirana stores in the country in the form of unorganized retail. They also mentioned that their scale of operations is mind-blowing. These approx nine billion Kirana stores cater about 90% of indian consumers means around 1.2 billion or 120 crore people.

As per the industry estimates that there around 750 million transactions happen every day which are equivalent to nearly USD 120 billion in gross merchandise value. These Kirana stores are served by more than 1,000 FMCG companies riding on more than 250,000 distributors.

However, most of these stores have no digital connectivity, which means that the store owners don’t have data-driven insights to serve their customers better and FMCG brands have no store-level data of how consumers are shopping in these stores.

Taking ‘kirana’ store owners from calculator to cloud

So, to bridge the gap between the technology and the Indian Kirana stores, a company came forward known as Snapbizz. It was started in 2013 and helping the Indian Kirana store owners; how to use technology to increase the revenue of kirana store owners, from increased sales to customers and brand advertisements.

Snapbizz offers the Kirana stores a touch-screen Windows 10 based tablet, a scanner, a printer and an LED display screen those acts as the PoS terminal along with a portable Wi-Fi hotspot that connects the terminal to the Microsoft Azure cloud. This solution enables the Kirana store owners to carry out everyday store operations like billing, inventory management, supply chain management, and in-store contextual brand advertisements.

This makes daily operations simpler, procurement more efficient, creates an additional revenue source and also allows Kirana store owners to file their GST returns effortlessly.

Snapbizz solution is currently being used by over 3,000 Kirana stores and 25 FMCG brands. It was also mentioned on the Microsoft blog that due to this solution some Kirana store owners have seen their profits increase by up to 25%. The effectiveness of the solution has enabled Snapbizz to witness demand from similar markets like the Philippines, Indonesia & Vietnam.
