Wireless charging is not a new concept but still, it is under development when we talk about its usage in our daily life.; especially in the Indian market where most of the devices such as smartphones are fall under the category of budget or mid-range and come without wireless charging feature. And if you talk about the Wireless charging availability in smartphones then almost all of them are high end or premium phones. However, to get the benefits of Wireless charging feature in phones we need a charger that can support this technology. Among, the various wireless charging solutions, the Belkin is one of them with a good brand value and reputation. They called their solution-  Belkin Qi Wireless Charging Pad. And here, today, after using it more than a week, we come up with a review.

If you look at the name of the Belkin Wireless charger then you will a find a word “Qi“. Basically, it is wireless charging standard which shows that the Wireless charger you are using can use the inductive charging up to 4cm or 1.6 inches of distance. Means, a device which near to the Belkin Wireless charger in the area of 4cm can be charged effectively. It was developed by the Wireless Power Consortium. Many leading mobile manufacturers have adopted the Qi standard including Apple, Asus, HTC, Huawei, LG Electronics, Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry, Xiaomi, and Sony. Even the smartwatches are now Qi-certified.

What is wireless charging?

If you ask us to give a simple explanation of the Wireless charging then it is a type of technology that enables you to charge your Wireless charging supported devices without plugging any sort of cable. For example an Internet connection via ethernet cable and WiFi; you can compare the Wireless charging with your WiFi that provides you service without any physical cable. However, in the case of Wireless charging, it accomplished using magnetic circuitry to transfer energy wirelessly. On the other hand, the device which you need to be charge has reversed coil that gathers the transmitted energy in order to get a charge.

Inside the Box of Belkin Boost Qi

The Belkin Boost Qi comes in a well-packed box in which a user will find the charging pad plus a MicroUSB cable. The length of the cable is good which is 1.8m and allow you to easily place the pad on a table or near to your bed for convenient charging. However, the thing which disappoints you a bit that the wall charger is not included in the box and you need to purchase it separately. The charger required by the Belkin pad is of 2 Amp or above, thus you can use your smartphone charger too in order to get started with this charging pad.

Belkin Boost Qi Wireless charging pad design

The charging pad we got for the review was in black and white color. It is a lightweight and flat disc in shape. The above side of the charger has a black colored rubbery surface for a better grip; when you placed your phone on it for charging. There is also a shiny circular ring on the pad between which the charging coil is placed under the hood. And for charging the phone you just need to put it above that.

Near the logo which appeared above the pad; just right to that, you will find a LED indicator that blinks when you placed the smartphone for wireless charging.

Coming to back side of it which is again clean like the above portion and also has a matte or rubberized base that again provides enough friction to the pad; so that it can be placed rigidly over the slippery surfaces. On the back bottom side of the Wireless charging pad, you will find the MicoUSB female port to supply the power.

Overall, the Belkin Qi Wireless charging pad is lightweight, small in size and easy to handle with a beautiful minimalistic design approach.

Belkin Boost Boost up Qi Wireless charging pad Performance

The usage of the Belkin Wireless charger is very simple; you don’t need to have a hassle of USB cables or the process of identifying the USB ports. Just put the phone on this small pad and you are done. We have used this charger for around 2 weeks for Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The thing to be noted that the Belkin Boost QI Wireless charger’s output is 5W and 1 AMP which means despite having a fast charging supported device you can’t charge it rapidly. During our test to charge our 3000 mAh battery phone from 0% to 100%, it took more than 2 hours. The conventional charger comes along the phone is faster than this. However, at a slow speed of charging we, didn’t feel any problem and even one can use to charge the phone along with its case. Also, you have to make sure that the phone you placed on the pad should be in center other it will not charge.

Review Synopsis

First of all before buying the Wireless charger make sure that you really need it at this stage. Yes, it is a future of charging technology that will remove all kind of cables need to charge a device. But right now, for me, it is not that much beneficial because while charging a phone using any wireless pad you can’t use your phone at all. You can’t pick the calls (one should be refrain while charging), can’t play the games, surf the internet, social media etc. So, from my point of view, let this technology more mature; when the time comes, when you don’t need to put your phone on some pad to charge that day we can use this technology efficiently. However, everything needs to be started from somewhere, and the Belkin doing that thing.

If you want to free yourself from the hassle of charging cables and can bear the slow charging speed then Belkin Boost Qi Wireless charger is one of the best options to experience the wireless charging technology because of lightweight, Qi, and clean design. Also, I want to add one more thing is the price; the price of Belkin Boost Qi is tad high which is 2,999. I can understand somewhere the brand value is associated with the price of a product but still, if you do not want a brand tag then there are a couple of Wireless charging options available on Amazon at lower prices.
