This feature is just like WhatsApp or Facebook Messanger, moreover, in addition to this, you can also see the exact amount of time when someone was last online on Instagram. By default for all accounts, the Last seen activity feature is turned ON but you can disable or turned it off manually; if you don’t want others to know about your online status on Instagram.
How to see when someone was last Online on Instagram Direct
Note: Please update your Instagram app first, before performing this tutorial.
- Open your Instagram App
- Swipe left on the Instagram news feed screen to access the Instagram Direct or Just tap on the paper plane
icon given on the top right side. - Now tap on plus icon given on the top right side of the screen.
- Select the Instagram user whose last seen or Active online status you want to know
- Send a message him/her
- Again get back to your Instagram Direct inbox.
- Now below someone’s username or the person whom you had a conversation, you will the last activity.
- In Instamessage, the Last activity of someone will show in the form of —Active Now, Active X minutes ago, Active x hours ago, Active yesterday, Seen, Typing…

In the above screenshot, you can see in my own Instagram Direct Message Inbox, I can see the last activity of every person who I had a chat; below their profile. However, you won’t able to see the last online activity of a user if he/she has disabled it from the Instagram settings.
Also, just like the WhatsApp if you have hidden your last seen or activity on Instagram then you also not able to see others. Although, after updating this feature of last seen in the Insta app by Instagram, is like a privacy breach but still you have a full control to disable or enable it.
