Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB is a successor of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 3 or 4Gb variant. India is already brimmed with a lot of Chinese smartphone makers those are doing a great job, for example, Xiaomi. Phones of Xiaomi’s are doing great because of affordability and lucrative specifications. In the segment of 10 to 15K, Xiaomi has the domination but just before two months, ASUS has launched the Zenfone Max Pro M1 that really can compete abreast with Xiaomi’s most popular phone Redmi Note 5 Pro. The additional benefit of it over the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, in my personal opinion, is the Asus Max pro M1 gives you a pure Stock Android experience with a promise of getting three upcoming upgrades. Albeit it is not only the stock Android that makes a phone better than others, optimization still does matters. We already have reviewed the Asus Zenfone 3GB model including camera performance, so if you like to have a glance of that before moving further to know about the distinctive attribute of Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB model; here are the links:

What is the difference between the Asus Zenfone Max pro M1 (3GB or 4 GB) and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB?

As I said, the latest 6GB model along with 64 or 128GB storage is the successor of the previous Pro M1 3/4GB. So, the long statement in short, except the RAM, Storage and Camera rest of everything is same in both the models. The body size, the material used to build it, display resolution, processor which is Snapdragon 636, Android version etc. all are same. One more thing, the prices are different too have a look at all Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 variants prices:

  • Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (3GB RAM +32GB ROM): Price ₹ 10,499
  • Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (4GB RAM +64GB ROM): Price ₹ 12,499
  • Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (6GB RAM +64GB ROM): Price ₹ 14999

So, in this review, we are not going to talk about the build, display and Audio quality of the phone those are same as the previous one. Readers those want to know about these attributes can follow the link given above.

Now, come to the point of discuss which is the Camera and Performance, those have got the key changes. Let’s first know about the Camera performance including camera samples of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6Gb model.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6Gb Camera performance

Being a mid-segment smartphone, the overall configuration including the camera is the well amalgamated with price, I mean whatever you are paying is worth. I am not promoting the Asus but it is because right now the smartphone market is very saturated for low budget smartphones with impressive specs. Well, put this thing aside and lets shot the bullets for the purpose we are here i.e CAMERA.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 6GB camera got the upgrade. Previously, the 3GB or 4GB variants were on 13MP + 5MP dual rear camera and 8MP for selfies. But the latest 6GB model has 16MP + 5MP dual rear camera and a 16MP sensor for the front.  Obviously, both minor software updates and the major lens hardware upgrade of Pro M1 6GB definitely give your photography a better experience but only on a paper. If I give you exact analogy between the Max Pro M1 6B and the 3/4GB camera performance then in real life there is no huge difference except resolution.

The camera ability of Max Pro M1 6GB to capture the light in day and night is the same as the 3/4GB variant; you hardly notice any huge difference even the color accuracy is same. You can compare it by yourself;  just look at the image samples given in this article and the images given in the camera review of Max Pro M1 3GB model. (Link is given at the beginning of the article).

Out of the different characteristics of the 6GB variant camera, those we have seen so far improved are the Portrait mode and selfie mode. However, the camera app’s interface and features are the same.

The given below image was taken in Portrait mode at ISO-139, shot: 1/100 sec. f/2 3.52 mm and has a dimension of 4608 x 3456. The camera precisely able to differentiate the object from the background

Camera Portrait mode: Zoom image sample of above:

We had zoomed the above picture to 17% and you can see the good details at the edges of the object, we tried to capture. The sidelines are clean though slightly blurry but acceptable from a mid-range smartphone.

The Selfie camera quality is also enhanced than before because of increased pixels. Previously, it was 8MP and now 16MP. The details it produced in the daylight selfies images were impressive including the well-lit background. But for low light, the performance is same as other smartphones those come in this price range, which is average. So, don’t hope to get impressive selfies in the low light conditions but in well indoor and outdoor light circumstances, the camera not let you down on your Instagram and other social media channels.

Below selfie image details:

  • File Size: 7.3 MB
  • Maximum Dimension : 3456 x 4608
  • Shot: 1/100 sec. f/2 3.43 mm
  • ISO: 147

Now come to the part which still needs an improvement in the Asus Max Pro M1 camera. First, the Focus, which is slightly sluggish and sometimes you need to struggle a lot to capture some object especially in the close-up shots. Secondly, although in bokeh mode the photos are well, the distribution of the blurriness is uneven. Sometimes it overlaps the object. However, the thing to be kept in mind that it is not a DSLR and still uses a digital blur with help of software. So, recommend to use the blur control feature of the Camera app while taking bokeh effect images, you can set it according to your scene requirement to avoid any kind of artificial effect in the picture.

Camera App:

The app comprises multiple modes: Automatic, HDR, Portrait, Landscape, Sports Flowers, Backlight, Sunset, Night, Beach, and Snow. Beauty mode is also there that’s intensity you can control according to your face requirements- Low, Mid, High or custom.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 6 GB +  64GB Performance:

As Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 uses the stock Android, the performance of the phone is already optimized and you will not see any major lag while heavy gaming or while doing multiple tasks. If you talk about the difference between the performance of Max Pro M1 3/4GB and 6GB then it really minor just because of more RAM; that can be seen clearly from the benchmarks scores of Geekbench.

So, performance wise you will not get any huge additional benefit as compared to the previous model, yes, the extra storage availability in the 6GB RAM variant will help the power users because it available in both 64 GB and 128 GB.

Overall, you will not be going to get any kind of performance or uncomfortable heating issues while gaming like PUBG, Fortnite and camera usage in both 3/4GB or 6GB variants of Max PRO M1.

Verdict:
