DrDisrespect got Banned from Twitch.tv for Lifetime, Here is Why

The most shocking moment of Streaming Industry hit the market when everyone comes to know that one of the most famous Twitch Streamers of all around the world, DrDisrespect has been banned from Twitch.tv permanently. DrDisrespect aka Doc (original name Herschel Beahm) is an American Professional Gamer and a full-time Twitch.tv live streamer since 2013. Dr. Disrespect received the “Best Streamer of the Year” award twice from the Esports Industry Awards, which is the highest honor of its kind. He won the award in 2017 and 2019 due to his entertaining persona with his pro-level gameplay style, apart from that he won the “Trending Gamer” award from The Game Awards. Dr. Disrespect has 4.4 million followers on Twitch.tv and 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube with more than 300 million views in total on both of these platforms. Doc used to play multiple games on Twitch streams including Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex Legends & Escape From Tarkov.

DrDisrespect used to be the Community Manager and later Level Designer in Sledgehammer Games, where he worked on the project of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. He joined Justin.tv (now Twitch.tv) back 2013 and quit his job in 2015 to pursue a full time streaming career. He started with H1Z1 then he switched to PUBG and later to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. He took a break at the end of 2017 due to marital problems and then he came back to stream in Feb 2018, where he lodged the second-highest record of having a peak number of viewers which was 388,000+, just after Tyler1’s 410,000. Doc’s popularity is manged to land multiple deals from sponsors like Gillette, ASUS, Razer, G Fuel, etc.

So, a famous personality like DrDisrespect and a successful streamer like him got banned permanently from the most renowned Twitch streaming platform is something which left everyone to shock. Let’s discuss the matter.

DrDisrespect Controversies

  • While back in 2017 when Doc took 2 months off from streaming, the first controversy comes forth about him, as Doc said he wants to improve the relationship with his wife. He also publicly admitted that he was cheating on his wife, which led to a bad impression on Dr. Disrespect’s famous entertainer image.
  • Another controversy happened on June 11, 2019. when DrDisrespect’s Twitch channel got temporarily suspended. Reportedly Doc was IRL streaming (in real life) over his Twitch channel while attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2019 (E3) in Los Angeles. Doc’s cameraman allegedly followed him into a public toilet and he re-entered the bathroom twice on two different occasions, with the camera on. This incident leads to the venue in violation of Twitch’s privacy policy and laws of the California Penal Code resulted in a big conspiracy and revoking of Doc’s E3 pass along with banning him from the event. Twitch also suspended his channel temporarily for two weeks, and the channel was reinstated on June 25, 2019.
  • DrDisrespect also received accusations of racism by a musician Jimmy Wong, as on stream DrDisrespect was caricaturing the Chinese Accent and language, though no legal move has been taken against him.
  • DrDisrespect also reported two different incidents of shooting through his upstairs window by some unknown person. This leads to the belief that many of the viewers do not like the aggressive persona and rough language which he represents on his streams.

Permanent Ban from Twitch.tv

On June 26, 2020, Twitch banned the account of DrDisrespect without any prior notice. Since then the discussions and speculations started floating around the internet. When some Twitch’s officials have been asked on this matter the replied as it was a regulatory move. Twitch officially said on their statement “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community“. That’s it actually.

So there is no specific details have been released on the matter neither from Twitch side nor from DrDisrespect’s side. On June 27, Doc tweeted that even he had not yet been informed by Twitch about the exact reason for the ban. He Twitted “Champions Club, Twitch has not notified me of the specific reason behind their decision. Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time. – Dr. Disrespect”

No one actually is expecting that Twitch would talk about the exact nature of the offense publicly as per their regulation, we can try to find his recent old streams and can check them to find some clue. Rod “Slasher” Breslau was the first to confirm that the ban imposed is a permanent ban. Slasher also confirmed that despite all the early rumors, the ban this time had nothing to do with DMCA complaints.

Conclusion

As the fans know about the aggressive persona which Doc used to present in his streams was quite more than acceptable for many viewers, for which he has been reported countless times, but nothing ever happens because of those complaints. Even after the 2 weeks ban in 2019, he got his channel reinstated completely, since then everything was going fine. No lawsuit or any such legal actions also not been taken against him by any authority. So all we can presume, that something happened in a very subtle way, which was offensive or extreme aggressive in nature. To confirm that you can check his recent streams of last week, and try to locate something extreme and unacceptable. If you managed to do so put that on the comment section below.

  3. He was banned because he signed a multi million dollar deal with Twitch, but Twitch found out he was thinking about leaving and going somewhere else.
