How to send a YouTube video link with a timestamp for others to resume from just that point

We often share several links with our friends and family members when we find something really useful or interesting on the internet, and that’s one good way things become trending. Among the different types of links that we send, one of them is YouTube video links. YouTube is, is as we already know, is a big library of videos, where we can find almost all types of videos and most of them are really worth sharing to add more value to our lives, and to the lives of other persons, we are sharing the video with. But, sometimes the complete video might not be something that we want to share and we want to share a small part of the video that starts from a particular point in time.

For example, if you are having a video of 20 minutes and the other person does not have 20 minutes to watch the video, you can make the video become more relevant and share the video in a way so that the video automatically starts from the point that you want. For example, if the most interesting part of the video starts at 11 minutes 42 seconds, you can share the video in a way so that the video automatically starts at 11 minutes 42 seconds, after it is shared.  One way you can do this is by asking the person to start watching the video from that particular point, however, there is a better way of doing so, and today I will discuss, how to do that here.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with how you can share and YouTube video with a timestamp so that the other person can start watching the video right from that point.

From web browser start Youtube video at a certain time

Open the YouTube video that you want to share and start playing it on your web browser.  Now, once the video starts playing, pause the video at the point, from where the video will start after it is shared. Now click on the ‘Share’ button, just below the YouTube video playback area.

YouTube Video Timestamp

Youtube start time parameter: Now, you will have to mark the option that says, ‘Start at‘, followed by the time. You will immediately find, that the timestamp is appended at the end of the video link in the following format, ‘?t=‘,  followed by the time in seconds, without the quotes.

(Optional) Instead of using the share button, you can also append the same timestamp at the end of the video URL in the address bar, as shown in the screenshot below. Hence, you can copy the link and paste it somewhere as a comment, or with some other person on a different website.

If you are enjoying your videos on Android and want to share them with a timestamp. Then tap on the ‘Share’ button while you are watching the video to start sharing it. If you want to share it on multiple platforms the best thing that you can do is copy the link. So, tap on the ‘Copy link’ button.

Now open the respective app where you want to share the link with the timestamp. After you press the link, append ‘?t=‘, followed by the time without the quotes.

So what example, if you want the other user to start watching the video from 4 minutes 25 seconds, you will have to append ‘?t=265‘. Here, 265 refers to 265 seconds that is equal to 4 minutes 25 seconds.

Now, you can share the link, and the other user can start watching the video from that point.

If you want to share your YouTube video on several platforms like WhatsApp, you can get a chance to tweak the video link before sending it and that is a time when you can append the timestamp within the app as shown in the screenshot below.

Start Youtube videos from some particular point of time

There is no direct way of sharing and YouTube videos from the app with a timestamp, however, you can easily do that with the tutorial, which I have discussed here.

This is a great way of sharing YouTube video links without pushing the other user to watch the complete video just to emphasize one small part of the video. You can also find a number of users, who comment on the timestamp of several parts of a video in the comment section of YouTube. What they simply do is, copy the YouTube video link, and append the timestamp as I have done it here for several video parts and post the comment. So, this can be a handy tutorial, if you want to watch YouTube videos, and use the share function effectively.

So, that was all about, you can share and YouTube video with a timestamp. Do you have any questions? Feel free to comment on the same below.
